An Italian study, published on Academic Medicine, investigated the relationship between level of empathy of the doctors and outcomes in diabetes care.
Results show that diabetic patients followed by doctors with a higher level of empathy have less acute complications. Patients probably are more keen to follow and understand better the doctors instructions when these are given with empathy.
